'The Nuts' Range

Welcome to you all and may I say what a tough angling year its been so far! Oh well, can't win all the time I suppose.....

Many thanks to those of you who have sent in pictures and catch reports for the site. Congratulations to those of you that have caught monsterous fish and PB's too!

Just a few lines now about our new venture. Nuts about Carp has undergone many changes throughout the last 5 years since its original development in early 2007. Today it stands up as we believe one of the best advice based sites on the net....Now we hope to offer you guys and gals a whole lot more. This will be in the form of the long awaited 'Nuts' bait range, which will include base mixes, liquid flavours, sweetners and oils. Spod/groundbait additives & boilie dips. Then hopefully later this year we will have our new range of luggage, unhooking mats, terminal tackle and lots more. All available very soon through the website and hopefully through out many UK tackle dealerships.

In the meantime we will be hunting for the new face of our bait range.....This will involve a competition which anyone can enter. More details to come in a few weeks!

We also require field testers for bait and tackle products......if you feel you are up to the job of being a 'Nuts' tester then send us an email telling us a bit about yourself, a picture, contact details and a few lines about your angling career, fish caught etc and tell us in no more than 50 words why you would make a good field tester.

Send applications to Keith@nutsaboutcarp.com.

Thats about it for now. Don't forget to send in your catches and keep your eyes open for the new product range!!!!

Cold start

Happy New Year to you all!

What a start to the year too! Snow, cold, wind and rain....A proper British Winter!

The fishing has been incredibly slow though to be honest with you all. I've ventured out only 3 times since early November and its not looking great yet for a fish! As some of you will have already read in my usual reports, I've joined a new syndicate water in Shropshire. A 10 acre estate lake, very silty with a low stocking of very pretty fish. I had my second session on there last week but i had to leave half way through due to a heavy dose of 'Man Flu!' Needless to say I blanked again! Starting to forget what the old Cypris actually look like????

Anyway, Stuarts had a quiet time of it too, the rivers falling foul of the same issues as the lakes....having far too much cloudy run-off pushing through making the river virtually unfishable at times.

The good news is that we have a new writer on board! I'll let him do the introductions and hopefully we'll get to see lots of stuff coming from him in the near future. Nigel is based in Portugal and is going to be sending us regular reports from across the water.

So' looks like its going to be a top notch year with any luck....as soon as the weather improves a little those fish will start to get their heads down again and hopefully we'll see plenty of you guys with some proper chunks on the bankside.

Tight lines and look forward to seeing some of you on the bank this year.

Keith

September latest

Hello to you all.

Been a while since I posted anything on the news wall. But the last few weeks have been full of stuff with in the angling press......Too much to talk about in one hit really. Yet I suppose the biggest thing to hit the headlines is the death of Heather The Leather, Two Tone and of course a huge number of big fish from the Mere too.

Now a big part of me is saying that this is mainly down to the age of some of these fish. Its going to get to a point when these large carp, which I guess are all pretty similar ages...are going to reach the end of their natural life.

The fact that so many big fish have passed this year leaves the question of where will the next British record carp come from????Are we ever going to get fish of the likes that we see abroad?? 80lbs+?

I fear that if we do see fish of this immense size then its most likely that it will be an imported fish that's found its way across the pond from some where in Europe.

I was as saddened as the rest of us about the passing of these fish, but the heavily publicised funeral of Two Tone for me was a bit over the top! Yes, a plaque on the venue etc is totally acceptable and I do truly understand the feelings that some of the anglers went through when they heard of the fishes demise. Spending years chasing a fish only to have you dreams quashed must be a real kick in the balls. But having a full blown televised funeral is ott!

I may be speaking out of line here and i'm sure there'll be some of you that will no doubt feel differently about the event. For me it was just all too much.

Another piece of news was the capture of a large fish from a water in Wales, that appeared in the press, causing a lot of controversy due to the fact that the pictured fish appeared very stiff in many peoples view. This happening shortly after a supposed stocking of fish to the venue which was denied by the owners and staff. In this day and age of KHV etc it's just darn right stupidity in my mind to stock fish into a water that clearly already has far too many fish in it!

Anyway, that's just my personal views on the matters.......

Fishing for me personally has been a tadd on the quiet side for the majority of the summer. The fishing has been harder than I expected and not as many fish have graced the bank side as I would have liked. Summer always evokes the thought of lots of fish feeding hard and getting caught more readily. Yet in truth its been bloody hard work so far....the fishing in the winter has been more active than this summer.

Now were heading into Autumn though, I feel its the best chance to get out there and bag a few of those monsters of the deep. I love the Autumn and Spring periods. There's lots of change in the air......trees changing colour and dropping leaves. All manner of wildlife readying themselves for the colder weather to follow and the onset of the first few frosts.

Ive just had my second fish of the season from my syndicate, Crayfish Pool. Its been a while since the first fish but I worked out that ive done 19 nights on the place so far since getting my ticket in May of this year. I'm 2x 30lb+ fish up so its not too bad a ratio I suppose.

Lets hope its not too long before they get on the munch!

Tight lines for now

'Nuts'

grey's prodigy barbel rods ???

Hi guys , just a likkle word of warning , after beaking the top of my fav barbel rod while threading line applying no pressure to the tip yes , it snapped , being nearly new I tried to get a replacement under guarantee , no luck , but was told by my local dealer that greys do an extended warranty to cover this , great i can replace it , duly ordered and advised it was ready for collection , so off i go to collect it , so on arrival I am informed that there is a charge for post packaging and insurance , ok something was expected , but whoa ,

£60-00 . more than half the price of a new rod for a third of the parts , I ended being the fish this time around well hooked , considering that greys are such a well regarded firm I was less than impressed and would advise someone looking for a new rod to go for one with a lifetime warranty, such as those from chub, tfg, or the like , hope this may be useful to some of you ,

keith 2(zigmeister)

New waters and PB's

Its been a wee while since my last general news blog....There's been many things afoot and plenty to get tongues wagging.

If you hadn't already read in my reports of the last few month's I've joined 2 new syndicate waters. Firstly Stenhill near Cullumpton in Devon...a small, secluded 25 man water with a good head of fish to 30lb+. My winter water and back up venue!

Next up was my main venture for the year in the form of the magnificent Crayfish Pool. For those of you who don't know of the place, well your not in the right circles! lol

A very tricky 20 man syndicate water of 3 acres. 35 fish present and my are they tough cookies to bag! I've managed one out so far at 32lb 7oz for 8 nights fishing.

Other news, congratulations to fellow Catfish mad Huw who has just banked a new PB common of 25lb 4oz. Very well done pal and we look forward to many more of your excellent reports soon.

Huw has also come up with a few ideas with regards to some angling challenges.....check out his ideas on the forum and please do get involved if you have the time etc.

Magoo has been out and about recently, changing his barbel gear for the trusty carp rods during the close season for the rivers. A little bird tells me he's done pretty well this week on the floaters....pics to follow with any luck!

Still hoping to get some sort of social event lined up for later this summer time. Not 100% sure on a venue as yet but please email me any ideas you guys have and don't forget to give me your name on the forum so I can gauge the response and gather some sort of numbers up.

I'm sure some of you saw the news bulletin in the mags recently....£250,000 WORTH OF IMPORTED CARP WERE CULLED! Due to illegal importation.

Now, whats going through these people's heads????I just don't understand it...maybe it's just a few of us but has carp fishing got to the stage where its BIG FISH or bust? Lets face it with KHV and SVC rife amongst the aqua cultural world surely importing carp at that level or even at all is just down right lunacy!

Lets face it, not even with a section 30 and a fish health check can the fish be absolutely 100% failsafe fit for joining the rest of your stock fish. I'm sorry to those of you out there who just want to bag a big fish as you have little time on the bank....I understand this, but doesn't any carp however big float your boat????Surely if we've got past the stage of just enjoying our fishing then we're on a serious crash course.

Only 20 years back it was hard to find a good carp water with decent big fish. This tended to be for the 'lucky ones!' But now its carp puddles every where! F1 this and baggin up that....what happened to just taking your lad out for a spot of fishing. Now we have instant 40's waters. I'm sure there are a few anglers who would happily pay £40-50 for a 24hr session to fish a stock pond for imported carp to 50lbs. But every week we see the same 40lbers onb the bank in front of sponsorship banners. Maybe I'm being out spoken here but it's not the way I want to head. I'd rather fish for true 'Brits' from quality well established waters.

Anyway, something to get you all talking about! lol Let us know what you think good, bad or indifferent!

All the best

'Nuts'

New Year Blues!

Hi guys and girls

Hope your all well and not suffering post Christmas empty pocket syndrome! lol

What a few weeks of weather uh! Blimey, we had some proper snow here in the Welsh Valleys. Tom's school was shut for almost 2 extra weeks after the Christmas period and we were stuck in the house for numerous consecutive days...being unable to move the car because of living on such a steep hill.

There is very little to inform you of on the fishing front I'm afraid....I haven't been out myself since my last session just before Christmas. I have been rather lucky in landing myself a nice syndicate place at a beautiful little venue in Devon with only 25 members and a good head of fish to mid thirties. Going to have my first session there for a few days next week. I'll let you know how things pan out there.

Stuey has had a few sessions on the Stour but to no avail. The water has been very high and coloured with a lot of road salts entering the water which clearly put the fish off. As I'm writing this now I can still see snow on the mountain opposite our house!

Just a few more things....remember to check out the Carping for Cancer site and give the guys there as much support as you can. We also have a new advertiser to 'Nuts'.....Infinity Baits has joined the clan and are offering some brilliant baits for sale on their site. Make sure you check this all out soon.

Right that's me done for now and I'll see you all soon.

Tight lines and good luck for 2010!

Keith

x
